SASSA Grant Payment Dates for January 2026
The new year 2026 is here, and a very happy new year to all the South Africans! However, there is some good news as well, that the South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) has issued the social grant payment dates for January 2026.
However, the Social Relief of Distress (SRD) grant payment dates will be announced in the second week of January 2026. Those who have been approved for the current month should collect their R370 payments in the last week of the month.
The government of South Africa has decided to close the SRD grant in 2026. You only have 2 more months to get R370 cash payments. After March 2026, you will not be able to get the SASSA SRD grant payments.

What is Special about January 2026 Grant Payments?
The SASSA grant payments for January 2026 follow the usual schedule. Old Age Grant will be paid on 6 January 2026, Disability Grant on 7 January 2026, and Children’s Grants on 8 January 2026. All payments fall on weekdays, making it easy for beneficiaries to collect their grants.
There is nothing new or special about these payments for January 2026. The grant amounts were already increased in October 2025. Therefore, beneficiaries should not expect any further changes in January 2026. The amounts and the payment schedule remain the same.
The government continues to pay grants on time, ensuring that older persons, people with disabilities, and children receive their support without delays. The Social Relief of Distress (SRD) grant is different. Its payments for January 2026 will be announced in the second week of the month. Approved beneficiaries can collect their R370 payments in the last week of January 2026.
It is important to note that the SRD grant will end in March 2026. After that, no further payments will be made. Other SASSA grants, including Old Age, Disability, and Children’s Grants, continue with the same amounts and schedule as in 2025.
Social Grant Budget is Declining
The South African social grant budget is set to decrease in 2026/27. It will drop from R284.8 billion in 2025/26 to about R259.7 billion in 2026/27. This decline marks a significant reduction in government spending on social support programs.
The reduction does not mean that grants will immediately stop. Beneficiaries of Old Age, Disability, and Children’s Grants will continue to receive their payments. However, the lower budget may affect new applications or expansions of social programs.
The government faces growing financial pressure, and this budget adjustment reflects efforts to manage public spending. While grants remain important for millions of South Africans, this change signals tighter fiscal management in the coming year.
