I helped him with the identity verification failure issue, and we went to the Department of Home Affairs office.

We met the officer and explained the problem. We told him that the name on the ID card did not match the record in the DHA database. It happened because my friend changed his surname but never updated it in the system.

The officer checked the details, confirmed the mismatch, and told us to update the information on the spot. After that, he gave my friend an application form. My friend filled it out and wrote a short statement that he had changed his surname.

He then signed the form to confirm everything. After the update, the DHA system refreshed his record, and his SASSA status changed a few days later. This simple step fixed his identity verification failed status.

So you can also go to the DHA office near you and ask for the issue to be resolved. This way, your identity verification issue will be cleared in the SASSA database. Also, you need to appeal for reconsideration once your identity details are corrected.

Step 1: Application submission:

The applicant fills out the SRD form. They include their ID number and contact details. They submit supporting documents if needed. SASSA receives the application and logs it.

Step 2: Initial intake check:

A clerk checks the form for missing fields. The clerk confirms the ID number format. The clerk checks that contact details are valid. If information is missing, SASSA asks the applicant to update it.

Step 3: Identity verification with Home Affairs:

SASSA sends the ID details to the Department of Home Affairs. Home Affairs checks the ID number, name, and date of birth. They confirm the ID is valid and active. They check death records to ensure the person is alive.

Step 4: Cross-check for duplicates:

SASSA compares the application to the grants database. They look for other active grants. They flag duplicate or conflicting applications. This prevents double payments.

Step 5: Means and eligibility checks:

SASSA verifies the applicant’s economic status. They check declared income and employment status. They consult available government records and databases. They assess whether the applicant meets the SRD criteria.

Step 6: Bank and payment verification:

SASSA confirms the bank account belongs to the applicant. They verify account authenticity and ownership. They choose the safest payment method available.

Step 7: Fraud and risk screening:

SASSA runs fraud checks on the application. They look for suspicious patterns and mismatched details. They may ask for extra documents or call the applicant.

Step 8: Final decision and notification:

If all checks pass, SASSA approves the grant. If not, they decline or request more proof. SASSA notifies the applicant by SMS or email. The process aims to be fair and to protect public funds. Applicants should keep their documents up to date and reply quickly to requests for information.
